One billion sensitive values encrypted

From a tough sell five years ago to over one billion encrypted values today — here's how CipherStash earned the trust of dev teams who were nervous about encrypting their most precious data.

When we first started trying to sell CipherStash to dev-teams, we got a lot of push-back. Folks were nervous about encrypting a bunch of their precious data with new technology.

Honestly, I get it. What if something went wrong and the data couldn't be retrieved?

Fast forward to 2026 and our customers have now encrypted over 1 billion sensitive values in production. Everything from email addresses to energy usage measurements.

So, how did we earn our customers' trust? 5 years of hard work!

  • We invested in highly available, resilient systems distributed across 9 regions globally.
  • We built fast, secure key management tooling that meets strict security requirements and provides safe recovery mechanisms in case things go wrong.
  • We invested in SOC 2 compliance, pen-testing, and have started making our core cryptography components open-source so they can be thoroughly scrutinized.

And we made decrypting data completely free so that if a customer ever wants to leave they can without any additional cost.

But it wasn't just what we did. Having early customers who believed in our vision was crucial. It made both of us stronger. For that I will be eternally grateful.

Here's to the next billion….or trillion!
